“Lifestyle Modification, the Forgotten Hero to Remain Healthy”

Burning epidemic of NCDs (life style related diseases) has already marked its roaring presence among residents of every nation at a varying degree. WHO have expressed its serious concern about the unpredictable escalation although it is noncontagious. Non Communicable diseases claims 40 million life globally each year out of which 15 million belongs to the age group of 30-69 years. Dominant NCDs are cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, obesity, COPD, cancer, orthopedic health problems, neurological health issues etc. Incidentally, urban India has observed dramatic paradigm shift in dominance of mortality burden from communicable to non-communicable (51% as the leading cause of death) diseases which has propelled mushroom growth of tertiary private healthcare delivery establishments in India. According to the vital analysis of some researcher, 23 major low income and middle income countries are about to lose US$83bn. by 2030 due to substantial economic drain through repel effect on labor supply, productivity, investment and education. Due to typical silent emergence among individuals, NCDs are diagnosed late and thus it leaves no preventive option other than technology based high cost treatment, the result of which is not guaranteed. Moreover, enduring atrocity of hospital stay with zero prediction of recovery gives them goose bump. Thus, it leaves its permanent mark upon victim and creates a new financial burden both for the individual and for the society. Eventually, a crippled society is about to form provided some vital steps are taken till the last Indian becomes a victim of NCD. Redundant access to unhealthy & risky lifestyle (harmful use of tobacco, consumption of unhealthy diet, alcohol, physical inactivity) are giving birth of such problems. Time tested evidence based prescription of sharp recovery of public health wellbeing has left no remedial option other than lifestyle modification as primordial, primary, secondary and tertiary prevention of NCDs. First resolution of HiaP (Health in all policy) taken by SEEHN at Banjaluka was mind blowing and the first guide to the rest of the world. But preventive intervention through generating awareness regarding NCDs associated issues to induce people towards healthy lifestyle is none other than a social compulsion for a nation’s administration due to its zero financial return. On the other, subjective acceptance of adopting healthy lifestyle largely depends on in depth and wishful thinking backed by perceived importance of healthy lifestyle. Let’s adopt healthy lifestyle by us to make India a flagship NCDs free country or wait until dark.
